Cosa ti ha spinto a diventare una scrittrice? Cosa ti ha fatto scrivere il tuo primo libro?

What inspired you to write? What made you write your first book? 

Scrivo storie da quando ne ho memoria, e ho sempre sognato di diventare una scrittrice. Ma avevo paura di condividere ciò che scrivevo con gli altri, in più ero convinta che non avrei potuto portare a compimento niente di tanto lungo come un romanzo. Poi ho iniziato a scrivere fanfic (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), e ho ricevuto feedback meravigliosi da parte dei lettori, che mi hanno dato fiducia. Poco dopo, ho sentito parlare del National Novel Writing Month, dove vieni sfidato a scrivere un romanzo breve in un mese. Ho provato e ho scoperto che posso scrivere dei romanzi! Infatti, ho appena finito il ventiduesimo. 

I’ve been writing stories as long as I remember, and I always dreamed of becoming an author. But I was afraid to share my writing with anyone, plus I was convinced I couldn’t write anything as long a novel. Then I began writing fanfic (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and I received wonderful feedback from readers, which gave me confidence. A little while after that, I heard about National Novel Writing Month, where you’re challenged to write a short novel in one month. I gave it a try and discovered I can write novels! I just finished my 22nd one, in fact. 

Cosa ti ha attirato verso il genere M/M?

What attracted you to M/M genre? 

Onestamente, non sono sicura. Mi sono sempre divertita a leggerlo, e le mie fanfic erano tutte m/m (Spike dormiva con Angel, Xander, Wes, Giles ...). È capitato che la mia prima idea su di un romanzo, diventato poi il mio libro "Stasis", avesse come protagonista un ragazzo gay.  Così, eccomi qui.  Come autrice, amo tutte le possibilità che il genere M/M mi offre. 

Honestly, I’m not sure. I’ve always enjoyed reading it, and my fanfic was all m/m (Spike was sleeping with Angel, Xander, Wes, Giles….). My first novel idea, which became my book Stasis, happened to have a gay protagonist. So here I am. As a writer, I love all the possibilities that m/m offers me. 

Come gestisci l'inizio di un nuovo libro? 

When you start a new book, how do you approach it? 

In genere, inizio da qualche idea su chi siano i personaggi e sull’ambientazione. Posso conoscere quali sfide dovranno affrontare. E questo è tutto — di solito non abbozzo nulla prima di iniziare a scrivere. Non ho problemi a trovare delle idee. Il mio file di idee è lungo 22 pagine. Una volta che comincio a scrivere, continuo; non torno indietro e sperimento finché la prima stesura non è finita. Mentre scrivo, conosco meglio i personaggi e spesso mi sorprendono. 

Usually I start with some idea about who the characters are and what setting they’ll be in. I might know which challenges they’ll face. And that’s about it—I don’t usually outline before I begin writing. I have no problem coming up with ideas. My ideas file is 22 pages long. Once I begin writing, I keep with it; I don’t let myself go back and tinker until the first draft is finished. As I write, I get to know the characters better, and often they surprise me. 

Parliamo di "Rattlesnake". Cosa ti ha ispirato a scrivere questo libro?

Let's talk about Rattlesnake. What was your inspiration for this book? 

Due cose sono arrivate insieme in questo libro. Una è accaduta durante un viaggio in auto attraverso il deserto di Mojave. In una stazione di rifornimento, in una piccola città, ho visto un uomo anziano che indossava una giacca di denim fare l'autostop, sebbene fosse notte fonda. Mi sono chiesta quale fosse la sua storia. L'altra mia ispirazione è venuta da alcune città delle colline della Sierra Nevada, non lontano da dove vivo. Queste città sono state create durante la corsa all'oro in California e sono piene di storia affascinante. Ho iniziato a pensare alle persone che vivono in queste città ed è così che è nato "Rattlesnake". Non è una città che esiste veramente, ma io la sento molto reale! 

Two things came together for me in this book. One happened during a drive through the Mojave desert. At a gas station in a tiny town, I saw and older man in a denim jacket hitchhiking, even though it was late at night. I wondered what his story was. My other inspiration came from a few towns in the Sierra Nevada foothills, not far from where I live. These towns were created during the California gold rush, and they’re full of fascinating history. I started thinking about the people who live in these towns, and that’s how Rattlesnake was born. It’s not a real town, but it feels very real to me! 

Jimmy Dorsett e Shane Little non sono i classici personaggi gay. Come hai affrontato la scrittura del personaggio di Jimmy?

Jimmy Dorsett and Shane Little are not a stereotypical gay characters. How did you approach writing Jimmy? 

Oh, amo Jimmy. Lui è uno dei miei preferiti. Amo che sia un po' più vecchio di molti personaggi di libri romance e anche che non ci sia niente di glamour in lui. È il genere di uomo che la maggior parte delle persone neppure nota quando gli passa accanto. Questo è importante, perché credo che le persone possano trovare l'amore e la speranza a qualsiasi età e per farlo non devono avere successo, ricchezza e un bell'aspetto. L'altra cosa che amo di Jimmy è il fatto che sia fondamentalmente una brava persona. La vita lo ha trattato duramente, tuttavia, lui segue un forte codice morale. Come accade sempre con la mia scrittura, lo conoscevo meglio mentre scrivevo su di lui e mi sono innamorata. Volevo disperatamente che lui trovasse una casa e una famiglia! 

Oh, I love Jimmy. He’s one of my very favorites. I love that he’s a little older than most romance characters, and also that there’s nothing glamorous about him. He’s the kind of man most people would walk past without even noticing. That’s important because I believe people can find love and hope at any age, and they don’t have to be successful, rich, and good-looking. The other thing I love about Jimmy is that he’s fundamentally a good person. Life has treated him roughly, yet he follows a strong moral code. Like usual with my writing, I got to know him better while I wrote him, and I just fell in love. I wanted so badly for him to find a home and family! 

Come hai creato il personaggio di Shane? E qual è stata la sfida più grande nel creare Jimmy e Shane? 

How did you create the character of Shane? And what was the greatest challenge in creating Jimmy and Shane? 

In una certa misura, Shane è l'opposto di Jimmy, in quanto Shane è sempre stato circondato dalla famiglia e inoltre ha un'idea veramente solida di dove sia la sua casa. Quello che era interessante su di lui era il fatto che è un uomo forte e orgoglioso che ha dovuto convivere con sfide importanti — e questo significa che a volte è stato costretto a dipendere da altre persone. Ma è anche meravigliosamente ostinato in un modo piuttosto gentile. 

La sfida più grande con questi due personaggi è che nessuno di loro pensa di essere una persona romantica e nessuno è il tipo che vuole parlare dei suoi sentimenti. È difficile costruire un rapporto come questo! Quindi, ho dovuto trovare dei modi per loro di comunicare senza parole. Ma a volte un gesto può significare molto. Quando Shane dà a Jimmy un libro, per esempio, o quando Jimmy trova una scusa per restare ancora un giorno in più, queste cose ci dicono molto su quello che stanno pensando. 

In some ways, Shane is the opposite of Jimmy, in that Shane has always been surrounded by family, and also Shane has a really solid idea of where his home is. What was interesting about him was that he’s a strong, proud man who’s had to live with significant challenges—and that means sometimes he has to depend on other people. But he’s also wonderfully stubborn in a gentle kind of way.

The biggest challenge with these two is that neither of them thinks of himself as romantic, and neither is the type to want to talk about his feelings. It’s hard to build a relationship like that! So I had to find ways for them to communicate without words. But sometimes a gesture can mean a lot. When Shane gives Jimmy a book, for example, or when Jimmy finds a lame excuse to stick around one more day, those things tell us a lot about what they’re thinking. 

Com'è nata la serie Scheletri? Qual è stata la cosa che ti è piaciuta di più mentre scrivevi questa serie? 

How did the Bones series come into being? What did you like best about writing this series? 

È stato così divertente scrivere questa serie! L'idea è nata mentre stavo guardando uno show televisivo con dei licantropi e ho pensato a come spesso vengono descritti, come un genere di motociclista rude e forte. Pensavo che sarebbe stato divertente avere un licantropo che non fosse nulla di tutto ciò —, in pratica, un architetto hipster cresciuto nei sobborghi. A differenza della maggior parte dei mutaforma, egli è preoccupato di conservare il suo posto di lavoro e di assicurarsi di non ferire nessuno quando c'è la luna piena. La fattoria di Dylan è stata ispirata dalla vera fattoria di mio fratello e di mia sorella in Oregon. Ma per quanto io ne sappia, la loro fattoria non è abitata da creature paranormal. 

L'aspetto preferito nello scrivere questa serie è la chimica tra Dylan e Chris. Chris è un tale saputello, e i due insieme sono sarcastici, divertenti e hot. 

That series was so fun to write! The idea came when I was watching a TV show with werewolves, and I thought about how often they’re depicted as rough-and-tough biker dude types. I thought it would be fun to have a werewolf who was nothing like that—a hipster architect who grew up in the suburbs, in fact. Unlike most shifters, he’s worried about keeping his job and making sure he doesn’t harm anyone when the moon is full. Dylan’s farm was inspired by the real farm my brother and sister own in Oregon. But as far as I know, their farm doesn’t have any paranormal creatures.

My favorite thing about writing this series is the chemistry between Dylan and Chris. Chris is such a wiseass, and the two of them together are snarky and funny and hot. 

Come si sono evoluti i personaggi di Dylan e Chris dal primo libro? 

How have Dylan and Chris evolved since the first book? 

Penso che siano cambiati tanto. Dylan ha imparato ad avere più fiducia in se stesso: sia per quanto riguarda la sua capacità di mantenere un rapporto, sia per la sua capacità di non fare del male alle persone che gli sono care. Chris ha capito di essere intelligente, un brav'uomo degno di essere amato. Non pensa più a se stesso come spazzatura. 

I think they’ve changed a lot. Dylan has learned to have more confidence in himself—both his ability to maintain a relationship and his ability to not hurt the people he cares about. Chris has learned that he’s a smart, good man who’s worthy of being loved. He doesn’t think of himself as trash anymore. 

Uno dei miei romanzi preferiti è "Maschere Veneziane". Come hai svolto la ricerca necessaria per scrivere questo libro?

One of my favorite of your books is Venetian Masks. How did you do the research necessary for this book? 

Ho svolto la mia ricerca nel miglior modo possibile: ho trascorso una settimana a Venezia! All'epoca, vivevo a Zagabria per un semestre, così, avevo la possibilità di fare molti viaggi nella regione. E non solo sono andata a Venezia, ma ho visitato Trieste, da dove proviene mio nonno. Non sono tanti gli americani che sanno molto di Trieste: non è famosa come altre città italiane, ma io l'ho amata. E ho trascorso anche un po' di tempo a Lubiana. È una piccola città affascinante e il mio nome preferito di città capitale da pronunciare ad alta voce.  

I did my research the best possible way—I spent a week in Venice! At the time, I was living in Zagreb for a semester, so I had the chance to do a lot of travel in the region. And not only did I go to Venice, but I got to visit Trieste, where my grandfather was from. Not many Americans know much about Trieste—it’s not as famous as some other Italian cities—but I loved it. And I spent some time in Ljubljana too. It’s a charming little city and my favorite capital name to say out loud. 

Cosa ti ha dato l'ispirazione per scrivere Bruto?

What was the inspiration for Brute? 

Stavo leggendo qualcosa che diceva che gli eroi di un libro romance debbano essere belli, cosa che credo sia una sciocchezza. Volevo un personaggio molto più bello dentro che fuori. Volevo anche personaggi che hanno lottato con disabilità fisiche perché, come ho detto prima, credo che tutti meritino l'amore. Poi, ho avuto questa strana idea su di un uomo che è stato maledetto a sognare la morte di altre persone e l'intera storia è arrivata insieme. 

I was reading something that said romance heroes have to be handsome, which I think is nonsense. I wanted a character who was much more beautiful inside than outside. I also wanted characters who struggled with physical disabilities, because as I said before, I think everyone deserves love. Then I had this weird little idea about a man who was cursed with dreaming other people’s deaths, and the whole story came together. 

Bruto è appassionato, gentile e nobile. Come lo hai creato?

Brute is passionate, kind and honorable. How did you create him? 

Penso che Bruto si sia creato da solo, come fa la maggior parte dei miei personaggi. Posso sicuramente capire perché gli antichi Greci credessero nelle muse, perché così spesso queste persone semplicemente sembrano apparire nella mia testa! Ho immaginato il suo aspetto un po' come quello di uno dei personaggi del mio film preferito, Fezzik di The Princess Bride. E sapevo che non è un uomo complesso o istruito, ma ha un cuore molto gentile.  

I think he created himself, like most of my characters do. I can certainly understand why the ancient Greeks believed in muses, because so often these people just seem to appear in my head! I pictured him looking a little like one of my favorite movie characters, Fezzik from The Princess Bride. And I knew that while he’s not a complicated or educated man, he has a very kind heart. 

Qual è l'aspetto più difficile nella scrittura di romanzi fantasy? 

What is the most difficult aspect of writing the fantasy novel? 

Il World-building. Vedo i miei mondi molto chiaramente ed è una cosa grande. Ma quando scrivo, ho bisogno di trovare un buon modo per aiutare i miei lettori a capire quel mondo senza che si perdano nei dettagli. I lettori vogliono una buona storia, non vogliono leggere sui sistemi economici o giuridici del mio regno. Quindi, devo spargerlo in informazioni sufficienti, in un modo interessante, così da lasciargli sapere come funzionano le cose. 

World-building. I see my worlds very clearly, which is great. But when I write, I need to find a good way to help my readers understand the world without bogging them down in details. Readers want a good story—they don’t want to read about my kingdom’s economic or legal systems. So I have to sprinkle in enough information, in an interesting way, to let them know how things work. 

L'amicizia, la famiglia, l'amore, le seconde opportunità e anche la disabilità sono temi importanti nei tuoi libri. Come sei arrivata alla decisione di affrontare queste tematiche?

Friendship, family, love, second chances and also disabilities are the big topics in your books. What is your thought process in deciding how to approach this issues? 

Wow, questa è una buona domanda! Provo a fare un paio di cose con tutti questi argomenti. La prima, voglio risultare realistica. Anche se alcuni membri della famiglia in questione sono licantropi o vampiri, i lettori hanno bisogno di relazionarsi con loro, il che significa che hanno bisogno che essi agiscano come persone reali. Una seconda cosa che è molto importante per me è essere sensibile e inclusiva. L'ultima cosa che vorrei è che qualcuno si sentisse offeso per il modo in cui ho descritto un particolare tipo di persona. Se il mio messaggio è che l'amore è per tutti, devo fare attenzione a essere coerente con ciò. 

Wow, that’s a good question! I try for a couple of things with all these topics. For one, I want to be realistic. Even if some members of the family in question are werewolves or vampires, readers need to relate to them, which means they need to act like real people. A second thing that’s very important to me is to be sensitive and inclusive. That last thing I’d want is for someone to feel offended about how I portrayed a particular kind of person. If my message is that love is for everyone, I need to be careful to be consistent with that. 

Ho sempre trovato l'ambientazione dei tuoi romanzi importante quanto i personaggi. Quanto è essenziale per te nella tua scrittura il senso del luogo?

I have always found the setting of your novels as important as the characters. How important is a sense of place to you in your writing? 

Oh, l'ambientazione è molto importante per me! Io amo viaggiare e molti dei miei libri si ispirano ai luoghi che visito. Inoltre, vedo le mie ambientazioni in maniera molto vivida. Posso descrivere a cosa somiglia la casa di qualcuno, dove fa acquisti, cosa mangia, l'odore dell'aria mattutina. L'ambientazione dirige la storia in larga misura. Ad esempio, la storia di "Rattlesnake" non sarebbe potuta accadere in una grande città o addirittura in un sobborgo.

Quando scrivo, cerco di dare un buon senso del luogo puntando su piccoli dettagli. Ad esempio, tutti sanno che a Venezia ci sono i gondolieri. Ma fino a quando non l'ho visitata, non sapevo dei fattorini che cercano di spingere i loro carrelli attraverso la folla o che ci sono sempre gruppi di turisti in giro con le loro mappe e con lo sguardo perso, non conoscevo il modo in cui appare il tramonto da un vaporetto o il fatto di dover portare fuori la spazzatura per la raccolta a un'ora precisa. Volevo che i lettori sentissero Rattlesnake come una vera piccola città, dove tutti conoscono gli affari di tutti. Penso che queste cose abbiano una risonanza tra le persone che hanno familiarità con posti simili e aiutino, inoltre, quelle persone che non li hanno mai visitati facendoli sentire proprio lì, a bere in uno dei caffè e a guardare la storia avvolgerli. 

Oh, setting is hugely important to me! I love to travel, and many of my books are inspired by the places I visit. Also, I see my settings very vividly. I can describe what someone’s home looks like, where he shops, what he eats, what the air smells like in the morning. To a great extent, the setting drives the story. For example, Rattlesnake couldn’t have happened in a big city or even a suburb.

When I write, I try to give a good sense of place by focusing on small details. In Venice, for example, everyone knows there are gondoliers. But until I visited, I didn’t know about the deliverymen who try to get their wheeled carts through the crowds, or the way there are always clots of tourists standing around with maps and looking lost, or the way the sunset looks from a vaporetto, or how you have to put your garbage out for collection at specific times. In Rattlesnake, I wanted readers to feel a real small town, where everyone knows everyone else’s business. I think these things strike chords with people who are familiar with the locations, and they also help people who’ve never visited like they’re right there, drinking in one of the cafés and watching the story enfold. 

Cosa speri che i tuoi lettori imparino dai tuoi libri?

What do you hope your readers take away from your books? 

Spero che i miei lettori si divertano, ovviamente. Questo è il motivo per cui la maggior parte di noi legge. A volte, spero di educarli un po', in modo indolore, o di aiutarli a pensare agli argomenti in modi nuovi. Per esempio, la mia trilogia di Ennek ha maghi, avventure e amore, ma anche alcune considerazione su come sia difficile bilanciare sicurezza e libertà. Certo, mi piacerebbe pure che i miei lettori sentissero che, anche se non esiste romanticismo nella loro vita, lo meritano e può accadere a loro. E questo è il mio piano super-segreto: spero che i miei lettori amino i miei personaggi tanto quanto li amo io. 

I hope my readers are entertained, of course. That’s why most of us read. Sometimes I hope to educate them a little—painlessly—or help them think about issues in new ways. For instance, my Ennek trilogy has wizards and adventure and love, but also some thoughts on how difficult it is to balance safety and freedom. Of course, I also want my readers to feel that even if there’s no romance in their lives right now, they deserve it and it can happen to them. And—this is my super secret plan—I hope my readers love my characters as much as I do.

Ti cimenti in diversi generi: suspense, fantasy, romance, paranormal romance, contemporaray romance, storico. Qual è il tuo genere preferito o quale genere di storia preferisci scrivere? 

You write in so many genres: suspense, fantasy romance, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, historical romance. Do you have a favorite or preferred genre in which you write? 

Li amo tutti! E mi piace passare da uno all'altro. Mantiene le cose interessanti. Ma se tu mi hai legato e mi hai costretto a sceglierne solo uno, probabilmente io vorrei stare con la narrativa speculativa, in particolar modo con il realismo magico. Adoro i mondi con una spruzzata di magia. 

I love them all! And I enjoy changing from one to another. It keeps things interesting. But if you tied me down and forced me to pick just one, I’d probably go with speculative fiction, especially magical realism. I adore worlds with a sprinkle of magic. 

Qual è la parte più difficile del tuo processo artistico?

What is the most difficult part of your artistic process? 

Trovare il tempo può essere difficile. Ho una famiglia e un lavoro impegnativo durante il giorno e qualche volta muoio dalla voglia di scrivere ma non posso a causa di altre responsabilità. Devo davvero gestire con attenzione il mio tempo. L'altra parte difficile è il marketing. Amo i miei libri, altrimenti non li pubblicherei, ma a volte è dura trovare buoni modi per convincere la gente a dare loro una possibilità. 

Finding time for it can be hard. I have a family and a demanding day job, and sometimes I’m dying to write but can’t because of other responsibilities. I really have to manage my time carefully. The other hard part is marketing. I love my books or I wouldn’t publish them, but sometimes it’s hard to find good ways to convince people to give them a try. 

Cosa ami di più dell'essere un'autrice?

What do you love most about being an author? 

Questa è facile: i fan. Niente mi rende così felice come sentire da qualcuno che ha apprezzato una delle mie storie talmente tanto da dirmelo. È una cosa veramente potente essere in grado di far vivere persone immaginarie al punto che altre persone si preoccupino anche di loro. Lo trovo particolarmente divertente, quando lo sento da lettori che vivono lontano da me. È un'esperienza elettrizzante sapere che persone in tutto il mondo stanno leggendo le mie storie.

L'altra cosa che amo è che ho avuto la possibilità di conoscere altri autori. Alcuni di loro sono diventati amici intimi e sono un gruppo incredibile di persone. Mi sento veramente fortunata. 

That’s easy—the fans. Nothing makes me happier than hearing from someone who enjoyed one of my stories enough to tell me about it. It’s a really powerful thing to be able to bring imaginary people to life well enough that other people care about them too. I find it especially fun when I hear from readers who live far away from me. It’s a thrill to know people are reading my stories all over the world.

The other thing I love is I’ve had a chance to get to know other authors. Some of them have become close friends, and they’re such an amazing group of people. I feel really lucky. 

Qual è la sfida più grande che hai affrontato nella tua carriera di autrice?

What is the greatest challenge you have faced in your career as an author? 

Sono stata così fortunata che ho affrontato davvero poche sfide a parte quella di trovare il tempo per fare tutto! 

I’ve been so fortunate that I’ve faced very few challenges other than finding time to do everything! 

Quali sono state le tue letture preferite durante la tua crescita?

What did you like to read when you were growing up? 

Ho letto per tutto il tempo. Sono finita nei guai a scuola perché ho letto anche quando non avrei dovuto, come nella classe di matematica. Leggo praticamente tutto (e ancora lo faccio), ma i miei libri preferiti spesso hanno elementi di fantasia. Alcune delle prime che ricordo sono state la serie Wrinkle in Time, The Phantom Tollboothe e la serie Dark Is Rising. Ho anche avuto un meraviglioso libro di fiabe da tutto il mondo che ho riletto molte volte. 

I read all the time. I used to get in trouble in school for reading when I wasn’t supposed to be, like in math class. I read almost everything (and still do), but my favorite books usually involved fantasy elements. Some early ones I remember were the Wrinkle in Time series, The Phantom Tollbooth, and the Dark Is Rising series. I also had a wonderful book of fairy tales from around the world, and I reread that book many times. 

A memoria, qual è stata la prima esperienza in cui hai imparato che la parola ha un forte potere?

By heart, what was the first experience in which you learned that language has got power? 

Questa è una storia imbarazzante. Quando avevo circa 10 anni, la nostra insegnante di educazione fisica ci stava spiegando come dovevamo fare un esercizio per ottenere una A, e lei ammise di non riuscire a mostrarcelo. Sussurrai una frase famosa a un amico: "Quelli che non sanno, insegnano". E l'insegnante mi sentì. Mi fece sedere e parlammo a lungo di quello che avevo detto e imparai che anche qualcosa di semplice come una frase può ferire i sentimenti di qualcuno. È successo tanto tempo fa e io mi sento ancora male! Inoltre, quando sono cresciuta, sono diventata una professoressa, quindi ora sono quella che insegna! 

This is an embarrassing story. When I was about 10, our physical education teacher was telling us how we had to do something to get an A, and she admitted she couldn’t do it herself. I whispered a famous phrase to a friend: “Those who can’t do, teach.” And the teacher heard me. She sat me down and we had a long talk about what I’d said, and I learned that even something as simple as a phrase could hurt someone’s feelings. It was a long time ago and I still feel bad about it! Also, I became a professor when I grew up, so now I’m the one teaching! 

Qual è la lezione più preziosa che hai imparato da quando sei diventata una scrittrice?

What is the most valuable lesson you learned since you became a novelist? 

Non puoi costringere una storia a essere buona. Non puoi metterti a scrivere quello che pensi sarà popolare o venderà bene, non se vuoi scrivere bene. Devo amare ciò che scrivo o i miei lettori non lo faranno. Quindi, sto con quello che è nel mio cuore e spero che, sebbene sia insolita, la storia brilli abbastanza da incantare i lettori.

You can’t force a good story. You can’t make yourself write what you think will be popular or will sell well, not if you want to write well. I have to love what I’m writing or my readers never will. So I go with what’s in my heart and I hope that even if it’s unusual, the story shines enough to entrance readers.

Is there anything else that you'd like to say to our readers? 

Voglio ringraziarli perché leggono! Un autore non è niente se nessuno legge i suoi libri. E voglio incoraggiarli a inviarmi una mail, se hanno apprezzato le mie storie. Non preoccupatevi della lingua! Posso usare Google translate e, forse, anche imparare alcune parole nuove in un'altra lingua. Oppure dovrebbero sentirsi liberi di scrivere in inglese, anche se pensano che il loro inglese non sia perfetto. Comunicare in una lingua straniera è una cosa coraggiosa da fare e lo apprezzo veramente.

I want to thank them for reading! An author is nothing if nobody reads her books. And I want to encourage them to send me an email if they’ve enjoyed my stories. Don’t worry about language! I can use Google translate and maybe even learn a few new words in another language. Or they should feel free to write in English even if they think their English isn’t perfect. Communicating in a foreign language is a brave thing to do and I truly appreciate it.

What are you working on now? Can you tell us about your future projects? 

Sono molto occupata! Ho diversi libri finiti in varie fasi di preparazione alla pubblicazione. A novembre avrò “Ante Up”, un romanzo su dei vampiri a Las Vegas. Avrò una novella di Natale dal titolo “Dear Ruth” nel mese di dicembre. Un vigile del fuoco che si sente solo in Kansas! In primavera uscirà “A Full Plate”. Questo è un un contemporaneo su di un avvocato di una grande città e un cuoco di una piccola cittadina. Questi sono tutti editi da Dreamspinner Press. Sempre in primavera, avrò anche un romanzo contemporaneo da Riptide Publishing, il cui titolo è “The Library”. E... ho un private eye-noir novel di ambientazione fantasy medievale attualmente in fase di presentazione, in più sto finendo un manoscritto di genere suspense/thriller su di una rock star e una spia. Il mio prossimo progetto sarà una novella della serie The Bureau. Ti ho detto che ero occupata! 

I am so busy! I have several finished books in various stages of getting ready to publish. In November I’ll have Ante Up, a novel about vampires in Las Vegas. I’ll have a Christmas novella called Dear Ruth in December. A lonely fireman in Kansas! In the spring, A Full Plate will come out. That one’s a contemporary about a big city lawyer and a small town cook. Those are all from Dreamspinner Press. I’ll also have a contemporary novel from Riptide Publishing in the spring. That one’s called The Library. And! I have a private eye-noir novel in a medieval fantasy setting currently in the submission process, plus I’m just finishing a suspense/thriller manuscript about a rock star and a spy. My next project will be a novella in The Bureau series. I told you I was busy!
